Well, last weekend it was Antiques in the Park at Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire, just a few miles down the road from us. We have done a couple of small fairs before but nothing as big as this. It was a massive 2 day event over the Saturday and Sunday with massive tents and marquees set out on the grass right in front of Shugborough Hall itself. The weekend was blessed with beautiful weather so a fab time was had by most ( most only because one poor chap only took a tenner the whole weekend, so pretty sure he didn't have a fab time, sunshine or not!).
I had the fun of covering in the shop for Steve on the Saturday. I was so looking forward to it, thinking about how I could change things around and display things better, as you know what some men are like. They don't always have the eye for angles quite right (sorry men) . I wanted to rearrange the window display and move items around the in the shop. I even had the vintage prosthetic leg tied to some cables just outside the shop door- wonder what people thought of it as they walked past. Steve took it to the fair on the second day and it provided much amusement to us all. Endless jokes such as are you legless and have you lost your leg were muttered all day.
So I had so much fun on the Saturday rearranging the shop, it was a shame when the time came for me to close up. Sales at the fair had been good and so Steve topped up on stock from the shop, taking the leg and the alien and predator heads with him. I bought with us a vintage metal walking stick seat. It has leather panel in that if you fold it out is a seat, then you push the sharp end into the ground and balance your dierrieon it. Portable seat - excellent idea, love it! Perhaps they ought to do different sizes for different sized bottoms though, do you think? It was hilarious trying to balance on it without falling over. Don't tell Steve though as its worth around £70! Am glad it never sold, as might need it again at the next fair lol.
Friends and contacts were made, Steve is good at this networking business. We also learnt a few things which we shall out into practice for our next fair such as using shelves at the back of your table to provide extra room for displaying your items and wear your passes in a plastic cover to prevent them being torn, crumpled and lost!
We have booked up to exhibit at the Stafford Antiques & Collectables fair to be held at the County Show ground in Stafford on the 16th and 17th May, in a couple of weeks. More exciting BBC's Bargain Hunt is going to be filming there that weekend. Hey, who knows we might even get onto the TV!! Just hope they don't want to knock us too far down on a price if they want an item from our stand lol. So all the fun at the fair begins again and may now continue to be a regular occurrence for Black Fish Collectables!
Have a great weekend everyone and a happy Bank Holiday Monday. We will be back with you very soon.
