I have always liked and enjoyed going around jumble sales as a kid, charity shops and little old antiques shops in pretty pictorial villages. But I never had much knowledge other than what anyone see's on Antiques Roadshow or Bargin Hunt these days.
Steve who set up Black Fish Collectables, my gorgeous husband, has a passion for things which is just explosive. Its great to watch him sometimes, so animated and excited about items he finds. The reason he came up with the name black fish collectables is linked to another 2 of Steve's interests. TV and Starsigns!!! Can you work it out?
Have you ever seen Black Books? Its an awesomse series about this really grumpy bloke, which Steve is uncannily like lol. Steve would love to run his shop in the same way as Bernard - his amusement would be ten fold but in reality if anyne ran a business like Black Books they would probably not be in business for very long! So thats where the 'Black' comes from.
Steve only has a birth day once every 4 years. Not sure if he has reached a teenager or not yet! So he is of course born on the 29th February and therefore is a Pisces. And of course sign for Pisces is 2 fish hence thats where the word 'fish' comes from.
Finally, he sells items that people collect, collectables. Some things are actual antiques hitting that 100 year mark in age, whereas others are vintage, or retro. In addition to collectables though, there is his passion for anything weird, quirky, horror, gothic, occult - there are so many words I could use here. So thats why in addition to collectables he sells alot of horror related items, some vintage such as horror comics, others are new indiviudal unique pieces made by an artist. He also loves films, espcially Alien, Hellraiser and Predator so sells alien and predator heads alonsgide hellraiser cubes. Guess these may be the collectables of the future.
Well I have quite enjoyed writing this first blog, so raise a glass and cheers to future blogs!
